ESA astronaut Hans Schlegel pictured making his first spacewalk, on the STS-122 Space Shuttle mission in February 2008 (this was the second spacewalk of the mission, lasting six hours 45 minutes). Schlegel and NASA astronaut Rex Walheim were replacing a nitrogen tank used to pressurise the ISS’s ammonia cooling system. The replacement of the tank is part of regular station maintenance. A new nitrogen tank was carried to ISS inside Atlantis’s payload bay.
