On this day, 50 years ago, at 18:31 a fire started that took the lives of 3 brave souls who believed that mankind was meant to explore the stars. I feel privileged to join their families, other astronauts and military personnel as they honor their memory.

It is my hope that we continue to charge forward in the same spirit of courage and selfless abandon that these men demonstrated in their short but monumental lives. Together we can continue to pierce the sky and extend humanity’s reach in the universe.
