At Orbital ATK, we are proud to support various programs that help us better understand our universe and lead to exciting scientific discoveries. One of these programs is NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, which has recorded the death of a star similar to our sun more than 5,000 light-years away from Earth. The space telescope captured what is known as the Calabash Nebula, the rapid transformation from a red giant to a planetary nebula, where its outer layers of gas and dust exploded into the surrounding space at more than 600,000 miles per hour. This occurrence is rarely seen by astronomers because the whole process occurs within the blink of an eye. Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA
