ExoMars mission controllers are preparing for the ultimate challenge: dipping into Mar’s atmosphere to reach its final orbit. On January the TGO will employ sophisticated aerobraking techniques to lower itself to a circular 400-km orbit to understand better the amounts of methane and other gases in the Red Planet’s atmosphere that could be evidence for possible biological or geological activity.
